How Get More Interest From Your Golf By Using The Best Public Golf Courses

Public golf courses provide the opportunity for everyone to play golf, which is important given that the sport retains a lot of its image as an elitist, upper class activity. Many of the best courses in the country are private clubs, open only to those who are able to secure a membership, and these are extremely difficult to come by. Often, there is a need to be sponsored by an existing member before you can take part in any of the club's activities. There are, however, a great many courses which are open to the general public, including some of the best known courses used by professional tournaments.

It is important to understand that the terms “public golf courses” and “golf public courses” do not necessarily refer to a course which is owned and maintained by a public authority, although there are many cases where this does happen. In many cases, the course is owned and managed within the private sector, and the word public merely denotes the fact that the course can be played by anyone.

A keen golfer with a sense of history can therefore take the step of playing on courses where top players from history have had their greatest moments. Courses which have been used for the US Open and US PGA are among those which are open and available to the public, although demand is obviously high. If you want to add some extra interest to your golf, beyond the challenge to consistently improve and achieve lower scoring, a sense of history can provide you with an opportunity to discover the greats of the game and many of their feats.

Some of the public golf courses which are open to you are amongst the best known in the game, including Pebble Beach in California and Pinehurst in North Carolina. If you are looking to combine quality vacation time with golf, these make ideal places to visit. Just make sure that you plan every aspect of your trip in advance, as demand is high, especially in the peak weeks of the summer. If you are able to travel at a low season time, you will find the facilities to be a lot less congested and tee times a lot easier to arrange.

Information on the best golf public courses can be readily obtained online, in many places for free. There are tables which list the highest rated courses, and if you want to visit a particular area you can find local tables as well. Some of the golf magazines and the best golfing websites have a comprehensive analysis of all of the highest rated courses in a particular area. Do a bit of research in advance, and you can greatly enhance your enjoyment of public golf courses.
