How To Give Yourself The Best Chance Of Landing Well Paid Golf Course Jobs
Golf course jobs are not easy to find, and are in great demand. There is a lot of satisfaction to be gained from working in an environment where you are helping people to make the most of their leisure time. Despite the constant frustration felt by players who never feel that they are playing quite well enough, and the inevitable inquiries into missed opportunities at the nineteenth hole, golf courses are upbeat and happy places in which to work. After all, there are plenty of other hobbies which can be followed, and nobody has to be on a golf course if they don't want to be.
A golf course is a business just like any other, and there are plenty of jobs to be found on golf courses which do not actually demand an ability to play the game. Even in these cases, though, it is as well to have a basic knowledge of golf, as it is the foundation of the business. Even if your role is going to be primarily behind the scenes, there may still be times where you will be needed to cover a customer serving position.
As the golf industry is very much about serving people, the majority of golf course jobs are going to be in a customer facing role. Serving in a golf shop will allow a keen golfer to mix with other like minded people, to work in an environment in which they will feel comfortable and inspired, and to have the opportunity to take advantage of the perks which are on offer. This will usually include free rounds of golf at the course during the time you are not working, which is a big incentive to many people.
Getting experience of serving customers in a retail environment is important for this type of role, even if that experience is not in a golf environment. If it is your ambition to work at a golf course, anything you can do to develop a good work record of reliability and service will help you to stand out from the hundreds of other people who would like the same chance. If your aim is to work at one of the more technical positions such as course maintenance, you will need to take some evening classes to learn specific skills as well.
Although golf course jobs are not easy to come by, don't let that put you off if it is something you really want to do. Golf is still an expanding activity, and new courses are being built all the time. Not only that, but the population is more mobile than ever before, and people move from one town to another because of other work or family commitments. Decide exactly which type of role will suit you the best, and then develop the skills needed to satisfy it. Get a good work record and reputation, and you will have every chance when it comes to landing golf course jobs.
